General Summary

Serving as a member of the development team, this position researches, cultivates, pursues, secures, and stewards grants on behalf of NWA Food Bank. This role will also support development efforts to research and schedule meetings with donors for our annual campaign and any other campaigns the Food Bank will need to launch to support its mission.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Grant management (55%): Manages relationships with foundations (corporate and private). Completes and submits all grant progress and final reports in a timely manner. Ensures programs are measuring results and are on track to deliver on goals. Writes and submits all grant proposals in a timely manner. Coordinates with staff to collect information necessary for proposal writing. Manages stewardship of relationship with current and prospective funders. Coordinate with Director of Development and President/CEO to connect funders with them when appropriate. Researches for new funder relationships and new funding opportunities that align with NWAFB’s strategic plan and operating needs.
  • Capital campaign support (20%): Assists Director of Development with scheduling of appointments, donor research, and database management.
  • Development support/research (20%): Provides research and data support for annual corporate and individual donors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of NWAFB mission, priorities, programs, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of non-profit development and marketing best practices
  • Knowledge of grant research, proposal writing, grant management, and funder stewardship
  • Skill in managing multiple projects at once
  • Skill in identifying, cultivating, asking for, and closing charitable product and cash gifts
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in operating office and technological equipment including but not limited to computers, office printers, and time tracking machines
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently and meet goals
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to organize daily activities of self and others
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Ability to drive company vehicles. Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours for special events


Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, English, Social Work or a related field or 4 years of relevant non-profit grant management experience as well as 2-3 years of successful, progressive experience in a grant management role.

Working conditions:

The physical demands of this position include sitting, frequent telephone and computer use. The position also requires the ability to work long hours and weekends as needed for special events and campaigns. This job description does not list all the duties of the job.
