Using Fundraising Consultants- When Is The Time Right?
Picking the right consultant can be critical to your campaign’s success because they can help shape everything from your case for support to your marketing materials. It is important to know when and how to select a professional that can give you the most assistance.
Matthey J. Beem, PhD(c), CFRE, President and CEO, Hartsook Companies
Matt serves on the advisory board for the Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy at Plymouth University in Plymouth, United Kingdom and sits on the board of Avila University. He is a senior fellow of the University of Missouri-Kansas City's (UMKC) Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership and was on the board of trustees at Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa, where he served as the Advancement Committee Chair from 2010-2014. He is an adjunct professor of Fundraising at Avila University and a featured speaker throughout the United States and abroad. Matt is the author of Performance-Driven Fundraising: Taking Control of Your Success and a co-author of $231 Billion Raised and Counting with Bob Hartsook and Karin Cox.
Matt holds a bachelor of journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism, a master of public administration in nonprofit management from UMKC's Bloch School and is a doctoral candidate at UMKC.
Allison McElroy, CFRE
Allison is friendly, engaging, funny, bubbly, warm, and a great listener. She truly wants to be YOUR FRIEND IN FUNDRAISING, and will share her experience and knowledge to help you reach your professional, personal, and fundraising goals.
A native of Jonesboro, Ark., and a graduate of Arkansas State University (Communications), she found her niche in fundraising at Open Avenues, a nonprofit organization serving individuals with disabilities in Rogers, Ark. During her career with the organization, she established the Open Avenues Foundation, led a successful $6.5 million dollar capital campaign, organized special events, created direct mail campaigns and oversaw all print, TV, radio, social media and marketing campaigns.
As time went on, Allison became recognized for her skills as a public speaker, as a trainer, and as the "go-to" mentor and cheerleader for fellow members of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Northwest Arkansas Chapter. She is a founding member of the AFP chapter, and served as the president in 2007.
Allison is a busy wife and mom. She and husband Duane have two active boys, Cooper and Barret.
